New strategies and new teachers made their way to CHS’s music and art department this school year.

Welcome!  “Have You ‘Herd’?” is our new school beats section, where we will update you on events and programs at Carlisle High School.  Check back often to see what your favorite organizations are doing.

The Art Department

There are numerous things that are completely new in Carlisle High School’s art program.

There is a new teacher, Ashley Gogoj, who is now teaching Design, Crafts, and Painting classes. Gogoj formerly taught at Lamberton Middle School.

Art teacher Courtney Kapraun moved from the high school half-time position to the full-time position at Lamberton Middle School.  Theresa Cipolla has been hired to fill the half time position in the high school. Cipolla is a recent graduate of Millersville University and is very excited to be working at Carlisle High School.

There also are a few exhibits for students at Shippensburg University and Wilson College.

October 20 – Nov. 2: The annual PAEA Student Exhibit that is held in conjunction with the state Art Educator’s conference is soon. This year the exhibit will be held at Fallingwater in the art gallery known as The Barn and Fallingwater.

October 25 & 26: The Yellow Breeches Student Art Competition Exhibit will be held at the Carlisle Expo Center. This is the third year for this art competition and students from Carlisle High School have been represented as winners each year.

The Music Department

The music department has news as well. Carlisle High School just had the first Coffeehouse which was a huge success.  This gives students an opportunity to perform music or read poetry. Many creative numbers were performed and it gave the students an opportunity to perform in a laidback setting.

Also, the marching band is having a great start to their season. The marching band has their entire show on the field and is working to keep improving how it sounds and looks. The band was just at a band clinic on Saturday Sept 27, which they hope will improve the marching and playing.

The symphonic band has several students that are trying out for District band.

Band instructor Byron Mikesell said, “I hope to get all of my students trying out to make at least first or second place.”

Mikesell has very high expectations of the students and he feels that they will succeed.

Choir director Daniel Schade also has students trying out for District Choir and is hoping to have a great turnout for that. Schade is also involved in the musical and really hopes that several students will participate in it because it is always a great experience for the students.
