As always, homecoming is a highly coveted part of the year. It is the perfect thing to start looking forward to as the school year begins. Even a month out from homecoming, we can see the anticipation and preparation beginning. From the guys preparing their homecoming proposals to the girls picking out what dress and shoes they’re going to wear, it’s all a part of the fun. As the homecoming date finally started to roll around, we were greeted by student council hosting this year’s spirit week with festive dress up days, “Minute to Win It” games during lunch, and the various events hosted after school like Dodgeball, Wingin’ It, Powderpuff, and the Pep Rally. All of these homecoming spirit events brought the energy and excitement that came with homecoming.
As spirit week came to an end, it was finally time for the grande finale, the moment we’ve all been waiting for… the homecoming dance! After Friday night’s football game, hopefully we were all able to go home and get a good night’s sleep before the big day begins. As Saturday morning came around, everyone was prepared to start the festivities. Everyone got ready for the big day: the guys dressed up in their suits and tuxes and sprayed cologne, and the girls made sure to do their makeup and hair; everyone did all of the typical homecoming activities. Most of us went to take pictures at Dickinson, Boiling Springs, or another aesthetic area, and then finally went to dinner before we all made our way to the homecoming dance.
From the moment we arrived, we could see the thoughtful and festive decorations from Class Council that enriched the halls, the festive and catchy music that was playing in the cafeteria and gymnasium, and the atmosphere that simply captivated the minds of everyone who went. Another exciting aspect of homecoming was being able to see all of your friends dress up and have fun at the dance. Walking around the venue and saying “hi” to your friends and classmates while dancing around was another highlight of the night. Even though the dance only lasted about 3 hours, it was a highlight of the school year with everyone wanting a piece of the action. From homecoming signs to spirit week, to the homecoming dance, I believe that it would be safe to say that it was definitely a week to remember.
