Carlisle Boy’s Track claims victory at district championships

Carlisle High School made headlines on May 20 and 21 when they overcame Milton Hershey by a single point to claim their third straight district team title in track.

“Heading into districts, every member of the team knew that we were going to be in contention for the title, but we all knew that it wouldn’t simply be handed to us,” said senior Matt Wisner. “We all knew that it was going to take everything we had and more and on the day of the meet, the pieces all fell into place and we walked away with the district title.”

The Carlisle team’s collective effort and points culminated into a surprising three-peat in the district championships.

In the 100 race, Prince Gaye claimed third with a time of 11.24 seconds. Isaac Kole contributed points to Carlisle with seventh place in the 800, and Sam Blumenthal turned heads with a 13-3 in the pole vault that tied him for fourth place.

Ali Brown impressed in the 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles with times of 14.76 seconds and 40.18 seconds, respectively.

With the title still in the balance on Saturday morning, Wisner aided in securing the victory with his younger brother, freshman Jack Wisner, obtaining a gold medal in the 4×800 relay.

Many members of the Carlisle boy’s track team advanced to the State Championships, including both Wisners, Brown, Gaye, Cole, and Blumenthal.

However, this victory did not change the fact that, to these athletes, track is about having a good time and growing as individuals.

“It’s a fun sport that lets you compete against yourself and get personal goals as well as competing against others,” said Blumenthal.
