CHS stepped up to the plate this holiday season and helped Project SHARE give to those who need it and spread holiday cheer.

With the help of several CHS clubs and many students and teachers, CHS has been able to provide Project SHARE with dozens of holiday cookies

CHS’s goal was to raise 1,200 dozen cookies, but with the help from many generous contributors, CHS was able to raise 1,400 dozen cookies instead, which is roughly 17,000 cookies! These cookies were later donated to Project SHARE, so that they could be used for their holiday distribution week.

According to their website, Project SHARE is an “interfaith cooperative effort, begun in 1985, involving over 66 local congregations, schools, and civic organizations.”

Project Share gives out food to over 1,000 families each month and, in honor of the holiday season offer the extra gift of homemade cookies to the families during their distribution week.

Rob Thompson, who is a special education teacher and also the coordinator for the cookie drive said, “For the past 15 years, CHS has helped Project SHARE out by providing hundreds cookies for their distribution day.”

Louise Bookamer, a Special Education teacher, who has helped Thompson coordinate this event, said, “[The cookies] help lift the families’ spirits and put a smile on their face.”

Thompson also said,” I couldn’t do it without the help of the various club and generous donations.”

Family and Consumer Science teachers, Jennifer Wiegand and Theresa Dixon are two of many helpful contributors to the cookie drive. Every year Wiegand has her Foods and Baking classes bake dozens of cookies that they later donate to Project SHARE.

Wiegand said the reason she has her students contribute to the cookie drive is because, “It is really great to be able to give back to our community. My students can go away from Foods and Baking feeling proud of their accomplishments when we participate in community service baking projects.”

Many clubs and classes have stepped up to help CHS donate cookies to Project Share. Some of the groups that participated include NHS, Key Club, Interact, Junior Class Council, Senior Class Council, Student Council, and Super Sci-Fi Fantasy Club.

The Interact club is one of the many clubs and classes that have pledged to help bake cookies for Project Share.

Junior Jasmine Markham, who is the president of the Interact club said, “I’m going through a rough time and cookies make me happy, so why shouldn’t I spread that happiness to everybody else by making cookies?”

Thompson is very impressed with CHS’s donations to Project SHARE and said that is an overall “successful cookie drive.”
