‘The Martian’ is out of this world (Review)

If you are looking for a film that is out of this world (literally), The Martian is your movie to see.

Directed by Ridley Scott, The Martian tells the struggle of Mark Watney (played by Oscar winning actor Matt Damon), an astronaut and scientist who is left stranded on the planet Mars when his team presumes him dead. When both NASA and Mark’s crew discover he is alive, the two work together to figure out a way to bring Mark home safely. Meanwhile, Mark must learn to survive and thrive on the planet until both can get him home.

Damon gives a wonderful performance as Mark as he portrays the character’s strength, determination, and desperation to survive on the harsh planet but also portraying the character’s lighthearted personality and wonderful sense of humor. The film also includes the wonderful talents of actors and actress Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Michael Peña, Kate Mara, Sean Bean, Sebastian Stan, Aksel Hennie, and Chiwetel Ejiofor in supporting roles.

The special effects of the movie are wonderful as they give us a realistic picture of the surface of planet Mars and space in general. While the movie does use a lot of math and scientific terms that may be hard for some viewers to understand at times, the movie does a great job of showing us the science of the scene which is very visually compelling

The Martian tells the inspiring themes of strength, perseverance, determination, friendship, and just never giving up in general. While overall tone of The Martian is very lighthearted and upbeat, the movie does have its dark and serious moment as the character of Mark experiences various setbacks

The Martian which is currently in theaters, hits home as one of the greatest sci-fi movies of 2015.
