There is a saying in the world of television that a show’s first season is impossible to top. In a way this is true because in the first season of a show we are introduced to the characters, the story, and the setting of the world that the show takes place in. While many following seasons can be just as good or as better than its predecessor, many fans usually hold a special place in their heart for the first season.

Season two of the Netflix original series Marvel’s Daredevil brings this view crumbling down. Based off the comic book character of the same name and taking place in the same universe as The Avengers films, Daredevil tells the story of Matt Murdock, a lawyer who was blinded in an accident involving radioactive chemicals but as a result, received heightened senses that allow him to “see” better then a normal person. Under the name of Daredevil, Matt Murdock patrols and battles evil on the streets of New York’s Hell’s Kitchen.

Starring Charlie Cox (Boardwalk Empire) as the titular character, Elden Henson (The Hunger Games) reprising his role as wise cracking Foggy Nelson, and Deborah Ann Wall (True Blood) reprising her role as main character love interest Karen Page, season two of Daredevil introduces us to two new characters: the brutal and violent vigilante The Punisher, played by Jon Berthnal (The Walking Dead), and the beautiful and lethal ninja assassin, Elektra, played by Elodie Yung (Gods of Egypt).

Season two of Daredevil kicks off with a bang as the audience is introduced to The Punisher and the long -awaited showdown between Daredevil and Punisher in the very first episode. All the actors embody their characters with incredible perfection that has to be seen to be believed, especially Berthnal’s performance as The Punisher who brings the gory violence and brutality that fans have come to expect to see from the character but also brings a new layer of emotion and vulnerability as a man who has suffered a great loss that we haven’t seen in previous interpretations.

The show dives deeper into the waters of morality that were featured in season one as Daredevil must come to terms with his own beliefs if his non-lethal methods versus The Punisher’s merciless killing of criminals are the right way to proceed. The action of Daredevil has also increased ten-fold. To the fans of the hallway fight scene from episode two of season one of Daredevil, you are in for a special treat this season. Marvel’s Daredevil has done what many TV shows have failed to do and that is one up itself. Marvel’s Daredevil makes for a great binge-watching weekend.
