Carlisle High School offers many opportunities for help in applying for scholarships to its students.

Why are scholarships important? According to CHS school counselor Amy Knapp, scholarships are important “because the increasing cost in tuition makes attending college more expensive and it requires effort on the student’s part to seek out opportunities to fund their education.”

Here at Carlisle High, the best place to find scholarships is the district website on the high school counseling page where there is a up to date list of local scholarships that is updated every Friday. Also, you can find national scholarships on Naviance.

To give you an idea of the scholarships available, here are a few highlights to check out.  Many scholarships are specific to college-bound seniors who are majoring in certain fields during their college years.

For example, the Buick Achiever Scholarship is available for college-bound seniors who are majoring in Engineering, technology or design with an interest in the automotive industry, which gives up to $100,000 to the winners.

Other scholarships are specific to college bound seniors who have a certain amount of community service hours and a certain GPA along with an essay and more.

The Readshaw History Scholarship is for college-bound CHS seniors that must be majoring in history with a 3.5 GPA or above, have participated in National History Day at least one year in high school, participated in community service, and submitted an accompanying essay. This scholarship gives $300 to the recipient.

If you check out the website or Naviance, you can find more scholarships for your college tuition.

Lastly, a little advice from Knapp: “Check frequently because scholarships are updated all the time, pay attention to deadlines, apply often because the more you apply the more chance you have in receiving the money.  Make sure you also check with the financial aid office of the college you plan to attend because institutional scholarships are usually the biggest source of scholarship money.”
