It is so difficult to maintain a perfect bun and the process can be strenuous and time consuming. The potential bun tilts, falls out or altogether looks deformed.

What if I told you there was a way to eliminate this arduous process? A miraculous solution has been found:  the sock bun.

At Claire’s, bun donuts of all colors and sizes sit on the back rack. Prices vary from $4 to $9 depending on the size of the actual accessory.

If money is an issue, there is another solution: Make your own bun donut out of a actual sock. Yea that’s right, hence the name “Sock bun.” You may be wondering, how on earth is a sock going to form a perfectly set bun? Well, to eliminate the confusion, here are some simple tips.

1)      Start with a knee sock (preferably the color of your hair)

2)      Cut the toes off of the sock, leaving two open ends.

3)      Roll one end of the sock all the way to the other end, to form a donut shape.

Now the fun begins- forming the bun.

1)      Pull the hair straight back into a ponytail.

2)      Pull the ponytail through the hole in the sock donut, so that the base sits on top of the head.

3)      Evenly distribute the hair around the sock, making sure to cover every inch of the base.

4)      Place a loose hair tie around the base of the bun to keep the hair in the form of the bun (excess hair will be present around the bun once the hair tie is applied).

5)        Part the excess hair into two pieces and twist each piece.

6)      Wrap both sections of twisted hair around the base of the bun, covering the hair tie.

7)      Bobby pin the hair to the bun to prevent hair from coming loose.

8)      After the hair is pinned, the bun is complete!
