When working out at home isn’t enough, how do you pick a gym? Check out our local options.

In today’s society, staying fit and in shape is one of the popular trends that young adults and teens like to partake in. While many participate while physical activities like sports or group games to receive their daily dose of exercise, others obtain their dose from the public gym.

But all gyms are not created equal. Different gyms have different offerings than just the basic fitness center. Not only that, but the prices vary depending what the gym offers.

There are five main gyms in Carlisle, PA. Those gyms are Gold’s Gym, Planet Fitness, YMCA, Jim Thorpe Gymnasium, and Indian Field Fitness Center.

I ama member of the Carlisle YMCA and both gyms on the Barricks, and have access to the Dickinson Kline Center. I work out 5/6 days a week, which means I have a decent amount of experience between my four options. All of the gyms have their bennifits, Indian Feild is small and usually unpopulated, Gym Thorpehas more open space for sprints/explosive movements, the Kline Center is clean and has excellent equipment, and the Y is simply where I started working out, my foundational gym and favorite by default. Although I have my preferences, I usually end up going to the most convenient or closest one to wherever I am. That means I usually go to the Y or Kline Center during weekdays after school, and Gym Thorpe on the weekends. You meet a lot of interesting people at all locations, and it’s a good way to stay fit and work off some stress, which is why I find working out so enjoyable.
