Conceptual Physics

Conceptual Physics is a new course at CHS, recommended to those looking for an alternative to traditional science course. Mrs. Moyer answered the following questions about the program from Periscope.

‘Scope: What can students expect from this curriculum?

Moyer: Students can expect to utilize everyday phenomena from the world around them to understand the physics concepts. For example, if they have ever wondered about the flight path of a football thrown by a quarterback, inquired about the speed of a tennis ball serve, questioned the force required of a boxer’s punch, or wanted to understand the science behind a ballerina’s pirouette, then this is the course that is designed to answer those questions, without the heavy memorization and utilization of mathematical formulas and equations.

The course will have a heavy reliance on labs, demonstrations and investigative activities to explore how physical concepts exist in our everyday lives!

What are the prerequisites?

Algebra IA and Algebra IB or Algebra I.

Expected workload?

Most of the work will be completed in class, through labs, demonstrations and activities!

What is this course meant to prepare students for?

This satisfies a physical science requirement needed for graduation.

Conceptual Physics is a course that is geared towards covering the foundational pieces of Physics without the inclusion of many of the deep mathematical concepts found in a traditional Physics course.

This course is not designed for students who want to pursue Engineering or a Physics-based career pathway.

What period(s) will this class run?

At this point in time, we are not sure what period the class will occur. This will be determined later on in the course selection process.
